Christina Goette Carpenter 415-581-2422 Fit N Fun Event Planned for Bayview Hunters Point
City Departments to Encourage Residents to Adopt Healthy Living Habits San Francisco, CA -- On Saturday, October 1, 2005, Joe Lee Gym and
Bayview Opera House will be the home to the BVHP Fit ‘n Fun Fair. The
event, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., is taking place
concurrently with the weekly Farmer’s Market. Not only will residents
have the opportunity to participate in lively activities, they can also
purchase fresh fruit and vegetables for a complete health package. The event will feature Banana and Strawberry guests, including District
10 Supervisor Sophie Maxwell. People of all ages can participate in a
full line up of activities: jump roping, safe city bicycle course,
basketball, weights, line dancing, hip hop, hula hoop and more. Two
raffles will be held during the course of the event; for each activity
someone participates in they can enter their name into the raffle.
Prizes include fruit and veggie baskets, sidewalk chalk and t-shirts. The event is sponsored by a generous donation from San Francisco Kaiser
Permanente. It is organized by the Department of Public Health, with
support from the Department of Recreation and Parks, Pacific Coast
Farmer’s Markets, Department of Children, Youth and Their Families,
Department of Parking and Traffic, Department of the Environment, San
Francisco Bicycle Coalition, The Fruit Guys and others. The event is
located at Third St between Oakdale and Newcomb. For more information,
