All case data presented on the maps were reported to the San Francisco Department of Public Health HIV Epidemiology Section as of January 5, 2012. Population data for calculating the rates of living HIV/AIDS cases and new HIV diagnoses were obtained from the 2010 Census. Treasure Island was excluded from the map. Data for census tracts or neighborhoods with population size less than 500 were not shown.
The address at time of HIV/AIDS diagnosis was collected at time of initial case report and used to map newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS cases. The most recent address the case was known to have resided was routinely collected and used to map living HIV/AIDS cases. If there was no additional follow-up address information, the address at diagnosis was assumed to be the most recent.
