WHEREAS, San Francisco State University has requested and received approval to begin a new Masters of Public Health Program in the Fall of 1998; and,
WHEREAS, the Masters of Public Health Program envisions a collaboration with the San Francisco Department of Public Health in both the teaching of students and in the conduct of public health initiatives; and,
WHEREAS, this collaboration in the new Masters of Public Health Program encourages a merging of aspects of public health practice with the training of public health professionals; and,
WHEREAS, the diverse study body at San Francisco State University includes many people who come from the communities served by the Department and who will have opportunities to serve those communities in a professional capacity, thereby, further supporting the Department's broad public health mission; and,
WHEREAS, this innovative collaboration has been awarded the prestigious Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE) grant, which will give it national prominence as a model for urban graduate education in public health; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Health Commission of the City and County of San Francisco does hereby determine that the San Francisco Department of Public Health's collaboration in a Masters of Public Health Program at San Francisco State University is consistent with the mission of the Department of Public Health; and, be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Health Commission of the City and County of San Francisco endorses the Department of Public Health's collaboration in a Masters of Public Health Program at San Francisco State University.
