WHEREAS, the City and County of San Francisco Charter Section 4.102 provides the procedure for the appointment of Department Heads; and,
WHEREAS, under that procedure, Commissions normally submit three applicants to the Mayor for the Mayor's consideration and the Mayor selects from among these names; and,
WHEREAS, the Health Commission believes that Mitchell H. Katz, M.D. would be the most appropriate person for the position of Director of the Department of Public Health; and,
WHEREAS, the Mayor has informed the Health Commission that he believes that Dr. Katz's experience and dedication to the public health make him the strongest candidate for Director, and has strongly encouraged the Commission to forward Dr. Katz's name for appointment as the next Director of the Department of Public Health; and,
WHEREAS, in light of these circumstances, proposing additional names of potential applicants is unnecessary; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Health Commission hereby submits the name of Mitchell H. Katz, M.D. to the Mayor for appointment to the position of Director of the Department of Public Health.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was adopted by the Health Commission at its meeting of Tuesday, February 3, 1998.
