WHEREAS,  In-Home Supportive Services workers provide an important service by providing care which allows severely ill people to remain at home and out of institutional settings; and,

WHEREAS, In-Home Supportive Services workers are typically low income, and uninsured or underinsured for health benefits; and,

WHEREAS, many In-Home Supportive Services workers fall within the eligibility guidelines of the County Medical Assistance Program; and,

WHEREAS, federal funding is available to offset the cost of providing health insurance to In-Home Supportive Services workers; and,

WHEREAS, providing health insurance to In-Home Supportive Services workers will improve the overall health of the target population; and,

WHEREAS, providing health insurance to In-Home Supportive Services workers offers an opportunity to work closely with other agencies, including the San Francisco Health Plan, and with organized labor; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the San Francisco Health Commission approves Amendment Number One to the Commercial Services Hospital Agreement between the San Francisco Health Plan and the Community Health Network/San Francisco General Hospital, to the extent that such amendment adds the In-Home Supportive Services Program, including the reimbursement rates for that program.
