WHEREAS, this year the State of California celebrates 129 years of public health activities; and,
WHEREAS, public health services and programs are a high priority for the residents of California and the City and County of San Francisco; and,
WHEREAS, public health programs significantly contribute to the reduction of needless suffering through increasing the knowledge and awareness of health behaviors; and,
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Health seeks public input through over 60 established advisory groups; and,
WHEREAS, the membership of these advisory groups represents San Francisco's communities, and works with the Department to address the public health needs of the City and County; and,
WHEREAS, Public Health Week recognizes the cooperation of community members, public agencies, private enterprises, academic institutions and foundations to promote the health and well being of San Franciscans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Health Commission honors the Department of Public Health's advisory groups in celebration of National Public Health Week, April 5-9, 1999.
