Birth Center: The Childbirth Experience

The Birth Center provides a comfortable and safe environment during the childbirth experience. We make sure you receive the care you need.  We provide a 24-hour midwifery service. For high risk pregnancies we provide care by UCSF experts in complicated obstetrics.

We guarantee that each patient will have a nurse assigned to her during active labor and for 2 hours after birth. We believe mothers and babies should be together as much as possible. Therefore, we assign one nurse to care for both mother and baby, a concept called couplet care.  We provide education and tools to prepare you to go home with your infant.

If your baby needs specialized care we have state-of-the-art facilities and the highly skilled medical staff to take care of  your baby.

Please call 9-1-1 if this is a medical emergency. Please call Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center at (628) 206-8000 for general information.

For issues or questions other than medically related, you may email the Department of Public Health.
