Exposure to asbestos can result in severe respiratory health problems, including a rare form of cancer called mesothelioma. The Asbestos Program enforces state and local laws to prevent human exposure to asbestos.

Principal Activities and Services

  • Examine city-owned buildings for asbestos-containing materials.
  • Assist city departments in managing asbestos hazards.
  • Enforce regulations that prohibit unsafe building operations and construction practices that result in exposures to asbestos.

For more information on asbestos, review the Asbestos Frequently Asked Questions (pdf), or our Asbestos Resources page.
