Newcomers Health Program 

Public Benefits for Asylees

Asylees, Refugees and Certified Victims of Trafficking in San Francisco are eligible for and may receive public assistance benefits and social services once they receive documentation or certification of their status.  Health related benefits may include Refugee Medical Assistance or Medi-Cal (public health insurance), health assessments and physical examinations, referrals to care, access to medical interpreters, and other health services for eight months from the date asylum is granted. Social services may include Refugee Cash Assistance, employment services, ESL and educational assistance, and other related services.

Applicants must apply for refugee benefits in the county where can prove residence.  Visit the closest local Health and Human Service agency in the county where you live.
